ESPN's Stephen A. Smith is reporting there's “no way in hell” Kyrie Irving will sign with the Los Angeles Lakers this summer and reunite with LeBron James.

Irving becomes an unrestricted free agent this offseason once he declines his 2019-20 player option with the Boston Celtics. The Lakers have cap space to sign a star player this summer and a recent report from ESPN's Brian Windhorst said Irving has spoken to some people in his camp about possibly signing with the Lakers and playing with LeBron again.

Smith, however, is hearing otherwise:

“From what I'm told, it's not going to happen,” Smith said on Monday's edition of ESPN's First Take, via NBS Sports Boston. “I got a text message from folks close to Kyrie's family, within the hour, as we were teasing this subject: ‘There is no way in hell he's going to LA. I don't give a damn what anybody says, knock that down for us right now please. He ain't going to LA.' That's what they say.”

Irving and James, of course, played three seasons together with the Cleveland Cavaliers and won the 2016 title over the Golden State Warriors. The duo's time together ended when Irving requested a trade from the Cavs in the summer of 2017.

The Lakers are expected to pursue Irving, Kevin Durant, Kawhi Leonard, Jimmy Butler and Kemba Walker this summer. Irving has been heavily linked to signing with the New York Knicks with Durant.
