Former NBA All-Star Carmelo Anthony is still a free agent, and with only two months left before the regular season, it seems unlikely he will be signed anytime soon. There have been rumors that the Los Angeles Lakers once had interest in him, but that hasn't gained any traction this offseason.

Veteran sports analyst Stephen A. Smith addressed the Melo situation once again on a recent episode of the “Stephen A. Smith Show,” saying that  it would be nice to see LeBron James make a case as to why his ‘Banana Boat' buddy should be with the Purple and Gold next season.

The Lakers recently signed Dwight Howard to a non-guaranteed, ‘prove it' deal. They can do the same thing for Anthony if they really wanted to. After all, Melo has already said he's willing to come off the bench and that he's already a humbled man.

Stephen A. could be right, if LeBron speaks up, he might actually help Melo land in Los Angeles. However, James is  focused on leading the Lakers to a championship in the 2019-20 season, and he cannot afford any distractions.

Still, it would be great to see Carmelo Anthony in the NBA again and end his career on a high note.
