The Los Angeles Lakers received some good news in regards to backup point guard Rajon Rondo on Thursday.

Rajon Rondo, who underwent surgery on his broken right hand in November, saw a hand specialist on Thursday and the swelling in his hand has gone down. Rondo recently had his hand drained because there was a lot of swelling in it.

Rajon Rondo hasn't played since Nov. 14. He suffered the broken hand against the Portland Trail Blazers after punching the floor. The four-time All-Star is averaging 8.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 6.5 assists per game this season while shooting 45.5 percent from the floor, 42.9 percent from the 3-point line and 50.0 percent from the free-throw line.

It's unclear when Rondo could return to the Lakers' lineup. His next evaluation will likely give us a better understanding of when the veteran point guard can play basketball again.

Los Angeles, who is in Houston to take on the Rockets on Thursday, is 17-10 on the year, good for fourth place in the Western Conference. The return of Rajon Rondo will give the Lakers another ball-handler and high IQ player on the floor. Whenever Rondo does come back, he will return to his bench role of backing up Lonzo Ball at the point guard spot.
