Corey Groves, a 17-year-old fan who was recently diagnosed with stage four sarcoma cancer, was able to meet his idol LeBron James. As Dave McMenamin of ESPN reported, Groves' wish came true before the Los Angeles Lakers took on the Los Angeles Clippers on Christmas.

To recall, Groves wanted to meet and shake LeBron's hand as his dying wish.

It wasn't a sure thing that James was going to be able to play in this game. As Adrian Wojnarowski and Dave McMenamin reported for ESPN on Christmas eve, James is dealing with a “thoracic muscle strain” but was ultimately able to play.

LeBron James and Anthony Davis are expected to play on Wednesday, league sources told ESPN. James missed a game for the first time all season Sunday with a thoracic muscle strain and discomfort in his groin; Davis tweaked his right knee during that game, a loss to Denver.

James is having another tremendous season in 2019-20. For reference, he is averaging 25.8 points, 7.5 rebounds and 10.6 assists (league-best) entering the game against the Clippers. He has been a critical reason for the Lakers having a 24-6 record, which is best in the Western Conference.

Both teams in Los Angeles are among the NBA's elite at the same time and that is rather unprecedented. Managing to get a win over the Clippers would be a great way for James and his teammates to send a statement to both their Los Angeles adversary and the rest of the NBA.

With Groves coming all the way from Canada, it's good to see that James was able to play and it all worked out.
