The Los Angeles Lakers have released young big man Thomas Bryant from his contract, making him no longer a member of the famed purple and gold

We know this thanks to Shams Charania, who took to the mean streets of Twitter to relay the information he learned.

As it now stands, Los Angeles is has more than enough room to sign to players to a max-deal, but this continues LA's strategy to shoot for the stars.

Last season, Bryant appeared in 15 games for the Lakers, averaging 1.5 points and 1.1 rebounds in 4.6 minutes per game.

Bryant should have plenty of suitors, for what it is worth. While he didn't exactly see a ton of time on an iffy Los Angeles team last season, he was still young and very much developing. A modern day center with the ability to shoot from beyond the paint, he might just need some more seasoning before he begins to hit full stride.

All of that being said, the Lakers are expected to be heavy movers and shakers during the free agency period. With Summer League approaching, as well as some trades and signings likely to happen, this could just be about positioning the roster to have as much cap space as possible.
