The Los Angeles Lakers have finally acquired Anthony Davis from the New Orleans Pelicans after months of trying to make a deal happen. However, there were reports that came out saying that the All-Star forward will be playing out the final year of his contract to become a free agent next summer.

Apparently, that's not the case.

According to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, Davis already has plans to sign long-term with the Lakers, and that has always been the case even before the trade was made official.

Davis has long indicated privately that he plans to sign a new contract with the Lakers once he becomes eligible for free agency in 2020, sources said.

A few days before the Lakers and the Pelicans reached an agreement on a deal, Davis reportedly narrowed down the list of teams that he's willing to sign an extension with. The Purple and Gold were one of them, and that is probably the main reason why the Purple and Gold were willing to pay a hefty price just to acquire AD.

The Lakers traded Lonzo Ball, Brandon Ingram, Josh Hart, the fourth overall pick in next week's draft and two future first-rounders to the Pelicans just to acquire Davis. Wojnarowski said that Los Angeles wouldn't have agreed to the deal if they didn't get some sort of commitment from him.

Now that the deal is done, and the Lakers can already focus on free agency.

The team still has enough cap space to sign one top-tier free agent to a max contract. According to reports, they will now make Charlotte Hornets point guard Kemba Walker as their top priority.

If the Lakers are able to sign AD and Walker to long-term deals, their future will look brighter than what it is now.
