According to the latest rumor involving the Los Angeles Lakers and Anthony Davis, some anticipate that the big man will pass on a five-year extension in favor of a shorter three-year deal.

According to Bill Oram of The Athletic, some believe that Davis might sign a deal similar to the one that Kawhi Leonard inked with the LA Clippers.

Some inside the Lakers anticipate Davis might pass on a five-year contract in favor of a three-year deal with a player option in the third year, similar to the contract Kawhi Leonard signed with the Clippers last summer. That would allow Davis to hit free agency in 2022, when he would be just 29, and still in his prime, and James would be 37 going on 38.

Recently, Anthony Davis expectedly declined the Lakers' four-year, $146 million max extension. This will make him a free agent in the summer and is eligible to receive a heftier five-year, $202 million max deal.

General manager Rob Pelinka knew that Davis was going to decline the deal but offered it as a sign of courtesy and a slight nudge that they want him to don the legendary Purple and Gold jerseys for a long time.

But the rumors suggest that yes, Davis wants to remain a Laker — so as long as James in his prime or the organization continues to add championship pieces to its roster. He wants to remain in Tinseltown but not long enough to bear witness to the tail-end of a legendary career and a possible entry of an organization into rebuild mode.
