Despite getting his wish of a trade to the Los Angeles Lakers, Anthony Davis reportedly won't sign an extension with the team and will enter free agency in 2020.

Davis has two years left in the five-year, $145 million extension he signed with the Pelicans back in 2015. However, his fifth year is a player option, which means he plans to decline it.

Davis, considered to be a generational NBA talent, will have the opportunity to play with four-time MVP LeBron James. They are now faced with the task of helping the Lakers win next season's championship after missing the playoffs for six straight years.

AD's future with the Lakers, perhaps, hinges on how the 2018-19 season will turn out. Playing with LeBron could either help or hurt Davis next season. If both of them will be able to co-exist, then there's a big possibility that he will re-sign with the franchise.

Moreover, the addition of another All-Star talent might help Davis commit long-term to the Purple and Gold.

The Lakers will reportedly make Kemba Walker their top priority in free agency, and acquiring him will definitely give Davis an assurance that this franchise is no longer going to settle for mediocrity.

Davis' trade to the Lakers definitely shifts the balance of power back in LA. With the Golden State Warriors hobbled by career-altering injuries to some of their best players, this is the perfect opportunity for the Purple and Gold to rebuild their dynasty and remind the rest of the league why they are the most prominent franchise in the NBA.
