The Los Angeles Lakers reportedly had a meeting with free agent shooting guard Dion Waiters last week, according to Brian Windhorst of ESPN (h/t Real GM).

The Lakers have some level of interest in signing Waiters, who was released by the Memphis Grizzlies after his trade from the Miami Heat:

“I don't know if Dion Waiters is an answer,” Windhorst said on The Hoop Collective podcast. “They're (the Lakers) going to give Dion a look. They had a meeting with him last week. I expect they will have a workout with him in the short-term and see what kind of condition he's in. They're mulling it over and it's because they need some sort of perimeter player who can score a little bit.”

Waiters played in only three games for the Heat this season because of suspensions. He averaged 9.3 points, 3.7 rebounds and 1.0 assists while shooting 38.5 percent from the field and 47.1 percent from beyond the arc.

The Lakers need more perimeter help. While Waiters can no doubt score the ball, his off the court issues are well-documented and he could be a distraction in LA's locker room.

Waiters will most likely have to convince Lakers superstar LeBron James he's physically and mentally ready to be on a championship contender. James and Waiters were teammates on the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Cavs wound up trading Waiters to the Oklahoma City Thunder in James' first season back in Cleveland following his four-year run with Miami.

The Lakers are currently 43-12 on the season. They have the best record in the Western Conference. LA just added veteran small forward Markieff Morris after he got a buyout from the Detroit Pistons.
