David L. Chao, a former NFL head team doctor for over 17 years, says Los Angeles Lakers superstar small forward LeBron James could be out for another six-to-eight weeks if he has a tendon tear in his left groin.

James' agent, Rich Paul of Klutch Sports, told Sam Amick of The Athletic that it's a Grade 2 groin strain.

However, David L. Chao says because Paul mentioned it's a tendon issue, LeBron James may not be close to returning after all.

The Lakers announced on Wednesday that LeBron James has been cleared to return to practice next week. The four-time MVP hasn't played since Christmas Day against the Golden State Warriors. LA has gone just 4-7 since James went down and dropped four spots in the Western Conference standings.

This is already the most games LeBron James has missed in a season during his playing career. At 34-years-old, it's clear James isn't able to recover as fast as he used to be able to.

LeBron James is averaging 27.3 points, 8.3 rebounds and 7.1 assists per game this season for the Lakers while shooting 51.8 percent from the field and 35.6 percent from beyond the arc.

Rich Paul says The King isn't going to rush back despite the team struggling without him.
