Despite the San Antonio Spurs showing barely any interest in trading disgruntled forward Kawhi Leonard to the Los Angeles Lakers, Magic Johnson and company are not letting that cold treatment stop them from trying to extricate the superstar from San Antonio. In fact, the Lakers have contacted San Antonio again on Wednesday after initially getting rejected by the Spurs, per Ramona Shelburne of ESPN.

Update from this morning’s story. The Lakers re-engaged the Spurs Wednesday in aggressively pursuing Kawhi Leonard. Story w/ @wojespn [Adrian Wojnarowski] coming shortly on ESPN. This is the first contact between the teams since the Spurs “shut the door” on them after an initial call.

This report came after it was revealed that the Lakers are feeling like they are in a tight spot with LeBron James continuing to remain mum on his decision. It is widely believed that LeBron is waiting on whether the Lakers could acquire Leonard before deciding that he, too, will head to Hollywood. James reportedly has not spoken with the Cavaliers so far during this NBA offseason.

Setting up another call with a team that has already spurned their advances before could be viewed as an act of desperation for the Lakers, especially when considering the fact that there are only two days left before the NBA free agency period.

That said, it’s a move Los Angeles feels they needed to make regardless of perception if they genuinely want to pull off a trade that could get them Leonard, the seemingly impetus for James to don the purple and gold threads beginning next season.
