Los Angeles Lakers big man Marc Gasol could already see an end to his brief stint with the Purple and Gold in the near future. Speculations have been going around that the Spaniard is emerging as a buyout candidate for the team, given that they've already landed the services of Andre Drummond for the remainder of the season.

Via Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report:

“As much as Marc Gasol's subpar contributions helped lead Los Angeles to pursue Drummond, Gasol remains under contract. There remains some speculation from rival executives that he could now come to a buyout agreement with the Lakers.”

Initially projected to be a valuable contributor for the Lakers, Gasol was previously inked to a two-year, $5 million deal prior to the 2020-21 season. However, he didn't get to prove his worth as he often looked a step slow on offense while also proving to be a liability on defense.

He is only averaging 4.8 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 1.2 blocks through 38 games played this season. The extended absence of Anthony Davis could've opened up more opportunities for him but it was Montrezl Harrell who stepped up to the plate and filled the void in the middle as of late.

With Drummond's arrival, Gasol's playing time and touches on the ball will definitely decrease. Furthermore, he is also expected to spend more time on the bench once Davis finally gets back after a long layoff from his Achilles injury in the weeks to come.

Finding himself stuck in a loaded lineup, Marc Gasol must show his value and come out with stronger performances if he wants to remain with the Lakers for the remainder of the season.
