Phil Jackson has been the talk of the town of late after it was reported that he's emerged as an influential figure for the Los Angeles Lakers as they search for their new head coach. As it turns out, however, not everyone is happy with the fact that team owner Jeanie Buss is seeking counsel from the Hall of Fame head coach.

According to Sam Amick of The Athletic, influential people from in and around the Lakers organization aren't exactly excited with Jackson's role with the front office — whatever that may be at the moment:

Make no mistake, there are powerful people close to the Lakers who aren’t thrilled with the reality that Jackson’s voice is being taken into account when he has no formal position with the franchise Like it or not, though, [Jeanie] Buss has relied on this sort of informal counsel from people she trusts for years now. That was the case with Kobe Bryant before his passing and had everything to do with the choice to hire his former agent, Lakers vice president of basketball operations Rob Pelinka, in February 2017.

It is also worth noting that Buss and Jackson were romantically involved at one point. As a matter of fact, they were actually engaged to be married before they called it quits back in 2016. Whether or not their personal relationship plays a role in their professional involvement, however, is not for us to determine.
