According to Zach Lowe of ESPN, a powerful NBA agent who represents a lot of key players in the league says his clients don't like the idea of LeBron James running the Los Angeles Lakers.

The Lakers are in need of a new head coach and president of basketball operations. Magic Johnson resigned as president last week, while the Lakers and Luke Walton mutually agreed to part ways.

According to this agent, if the new Lakers president of basketball Operations or head coach has strong ties with James, potential free agents might not sign with the Purple and Gold.

“Who they hire in the front office is going to be absolutely crucial to replace Magic, because there are two orbits here: There’s a Lakers orbit … and then, the more interesting one is, there’s a LeBron orbit,” Lowe said on The Woj & Lowe Show on ESPN: Playoff Special, via LeBron Wire.

“And I’ve had some powerful people in the league, including a powerful agent who represents lots of key players, tell me, ‘We don’t want the person to be from either of those orbits. We don’t want the new GM, or president, or whatever, even to have some sort of connection to LeBron. We need it to be a fresh start. My players don’t want to have the impression that LeBron is running the team.’ “

The Lakers have been linked to Tyronn Lue and Monty Williams. Lue, of course, coached James on the Cleveland Cavaliers.

GM Rob Pelinka is leading the head coaching search for Los Angeles. The Lakers are expected to try and trade for New Orleans Pelicans star Anthony Davis this summer, as well as sign a max contract player in free agency.
