The Los Angeles Lakers and Sacramento Kings have had bad blood since the playoffs of the early 2000s. Although the Lakers have been the big brother of this rivalry, they recently looked to their little brother for some help.

Los Angeles was inches away from trading for Kings sharpshooter Buddy Hield this past offseason. The Lakers changed course and pursued Russell Westbrook instead at the request of LeBron James and Anthony Davis. The move has backfired so far and the front office is still pursuing Hield.

Yahoo Sports' Chris Haynes said on his podcast, Posted Up with Chris Haynes, that the Lakers are still pursuing Hield. This time, they are using one of their young players to try and pry him from Sacramento (via Justin Benjamin of Lakers Daily):

“League sources have told me the Lakers reached out to the Kings about a Talen Horton-Tucker package for Buddy Hield,” Haynes said during a podcast. “Still trying to make that happen. Obviously, the Kings are like, ‘No. We feel like there’s more lucrative deals out there.’ The Kings are going to be active. They’ve got a whole bunch of people calling them.”

Talen Horton-Tucker has been dangled as trade bait for a while now. His intriguing physical frame and potential as a scorer haven't gotten any teams to bite, though, as he struggles with his jumper. The Lakers could use Hield but so could other teams. It could take more than Horton-Tucker to land him.
