Dennis Schroder's time with the Los Angeles Lakers may be over. That is if recent rumors are to be believed.

Recently, Marc Stein wrote on Substack how the Lakers' interest on various veteran guards suggest that they are looking to move on from the German playmaker. To back up his claim, Stein appeared on Chad Ford's NBA Big Board podcast to highlight the reasons the Purple and Gold no longer view Dennis the Menace as part of their future.

“The easiest thing would be re-signing Dennis Schroder, but Dennis Schroder wants crazy money. Dennis Schroder thinks he’s a $100 million player,” Stein said, per Silver Screen and Roll. “He’s already turned down an extension in the $80 millions, and the vibe from the Lakers really is, I think they’d rather move on from Schroder. I don’t think they see Schroder as a starter. I think they like him as a Sixth Man, but they want something more out of their main backcourt guy.”

Schroder started in all 61 games he played for the Lakers during the 2020-21 campaign, averaging decent numbers of 15.4 points, 3.5 rebounds and 5.8 assists. Nonetheless, his inconsistency has been really frustrating, especially during the playoffs when he disappeared when it mattered most.

Such performance certainly didn't help how the Lakers value him. While he is a serviceable point guard, LA has learned its lesson not to overspend on role players.

The Lakers have been linked to the likes of Chris Paul and Kyle Lowry. Lonzo Ball has also been labeled as a potential target for the Purple and Gold. With that said, as Stein noted, this only means Schroder has no future in LA if the team lands a starting point guard this offseason.
