Tyronn Lue reportedly “wanted no part” of Jason Kidd being his assistant coach on the Los Angeles Lakers, according to Ken Berger of Bleacher Report.

The Lakers reportedly wanted to pick Lue's assistants for him, and Kidd was one of the names LA liked. That was one of the deal-breakers for the ex-Cleveland Cavaliers coach:

Wojnarowski and McMenamin added that Lakers adviser Kurt Rambis assumed a prominent role in the coaching search, and that Rambis and general manager Rob Pelinka became convinced that Jason Kidd should be part of Lue's coaching staff.

“Ty wanted no part of that,” another agent told B/R. “He must have been thinking, ‘Great, all I have to do is start 8-8, and I'm out of here and Jason Kidd is the coach.' “

Lue told the Lakers on Wednesday he would not be taking the job. LA will continue its coaching search.

Kidd coached the Brooklyn Nets and Milwaukee Bucks after his Hall of Fame career ended. The Bucks fired Kidd in 2018.

After the Phoenix Suns hired Monty Williams, the other coach the Lakers were talking with, everyone assumed LA would hire Lue, who coached LeBron James on the Cavs.

It will be interesting to see where the Purple and Gold go from here.
