The Los Angeles Lakers have been one of the more quiet teams in free agency through the first few days without any roster moves being made aside from parting ways with veteran big man Tarik Black on Saturday afternoon.

According to Michael Scotto of Basketball Insiders, the Lakers are set to meet with veteran guard Dion Waiters on Sunday night.

There is an obvious connection between Waiters and the Lakers given that general manager Rob Pelinka used to be his agent before accepting the position with the team earlier this year. It had also been rumored that Los Angeles was going to pursue the 25-year-old in free agency.

Along those same lines, the Miami Heat reportedly are not willing to overpay to re-sign him, especially with their primary attention toward luring in All-Star forward Gordon Hayward.

Waiters is coming off a strong season where he averaged 15.8 points along with posting career-highs of 39.5 percent from 3-point range and 4.3 assists despite playing in just 46 games. This includes scoring 20 or more points on 16 occasions and two 30-point performances.

The Lakers currently have about $17 million in salary-cap space and are looking to maintain significant financial flexibility next summer. This will likely mean the Lakers presenting Waiters either a one-year deal or two-year contract offer with a team option for the second season in their meeting with him on Sunday night.
