Earlier this season, Rajon Rondo became part of a lot of headlines for the comments he made against Isaiah Thomas, when he said that the Boston Celtics should only pay tribute to their former players who brought a championship to the franchise. With the two players facing off Wednesday for the first time since the New Orleans Pelicans point guard made that jab, things were expected to get intense between the two marquee court generals.

Their meeting did not take long to live up to expectations as the two figured in a shoving match which led to them receiving a technical foul each. Despite the warning they received from the referees after, that did not stop them from continuing to push each other around while battling for position, resulting to their second technicals and being ejected from the game.

The development early in the game is a huge blow for both teams as the two point guards are integral parts of their rotations. Isaiah Thomas, who only landed with the Los Angeles Lakers during last Thursday's deadline, already received a lot of minutes from head coach Luke Walton during his debut and appears to be the recipient of extended playing time with Lonzo Ball still injured. Rajon Rondo, on the other hand, has been the Pelicans' starter since the season began, and is relied upon heavily to run the plays for their team.

For what it's worth, the next meetings between the Lakers and Pelicans is now even more exciting to watch, as the matchup will not only feature two young teams, but also veteran point guards who want to prove something against the other.
