News of Bronny James, eldest son of Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James, being on the receiving end of an object being thrown at him by a fan during a basketball game made its rounds on the internet Monday. A kid threw an orange peel at Bronny during the 2020 Hoophall Classic, which as it turns out, did not have the worst intention behind it.

It was a very young boy who was responsible for this disrespectful act, but in the interest of closure, the boy himself posted a video on YouTube to apologize to Bronny and the rest of the James family:

“Hi James family, I just want to apologize that I threw an orange peel at Bronny,” he said in a video posted on Monday night. (h/t to Tom Westerholm of MassLive)

As it turns out, the boy did not throw the orange peel at Bronny James to intentionally mock him, but instead, it was a young boy's attempt to call the attention of a player he admired:

“I didn’t want to hurt anyone, I was actually there at Springfield College during Hoophall I’m not lying or trying to get clout. I was in the front area seats the people around me were not my parents my parents were sitting a couple seats away because I wanted to sit closer. I was calling out Bronny’s name and just wanted him to see me.”

Regardless of his reason, though, there's no denying that what he did was inexcusable. The boy did say that his mom brought him home after the incident, so we're pretty sure he got straightened out soon after.
