Kobe Bryant is facing quite a bit of criticism for the remarks he made about one of the girls on his youth team earlier this week. As part of an Instagram post, the Lakers icon called out a young girl for missing a game due to a dance recital several years ago, claiming that her focus lied elsewhere:
“The 7th player (not in pic) missed this game for a dance recital so that should tell you where her focus was at this time, meaning she enjoyed dance more than ball which is fine,” Bryant wrote in his Instagram post.

Kobe tried to explain his ill-advised comments about the young girl in numerous other Twitter posts, claiming that his words were taken out of context:
Doing a dance to miss the game isn’t a bad thing. That’s not what I was saying. I was just giving context as to why she wasn’t in the picture. All my girls play/played diff sports. It’s all good and For the record I followed their lead on not smiling. They HATED those trophies

sorry if it came across as a slight, trust me it wasn’t. I was just giving the reason for her not being in the pic. They chose not to smile for the pic I actually followed their lead. Our team has become family and this includes the 7th player

Bryant took to Instagram for another post on Thursday morning. This time, the Lakers legend shared a clip of himself dancing to Vanilla Ice's “Ice Ice Baby” at the age of 12. Was this a way to defend his initial comments about the young girl, or was it simply a way to show that he too enjoyed dancing at a young age? Probably a bit of both:
“When I was 12, I skipped basketball for two weeks so I could dance in a school show,” Bryant wrote in his Instagram post. “I’m all about diversifying while young, then locking in on your passion.”

In the end, it seems all of this could have been avoided if Kobe Bryant would have thought about his initial choice of words before pressing send.
