When it comes to executing a perfect pass off the backboard to one of your teammates for an awesome dunk attempt, sometimes you should just be happy that the ball somehow actually went into the hoop. That was exactly the case between Los Angeles Lakers rookie point guard Lonzo Ball and power forward Julius Randle on Tuesday night during a game against the Sacramento Kings.

About midway through the second quarter with Sacramento leading 36-35, Ball stole the leather from Kings center Kosta Koufos and raced down the court towards the other basket. With a 19-year NBA veteran in Kings shooting guard Vince Carter trying to chase him down, Ball quickly threw a pass off the backboard to his teammate Randle. The timing was definitely a bit off, but Randle still got his hand on the ball and it somehow bounced into the hoop to give the Lakers the lead.

A video of the wacky play, which was posted to Twitter by Bleacher Report, can be viewed below:

It doesn't even look like Ball could believe that the rock actually found its way into the basket for a score, as he tripped over a cameraman positioned courtside after being unaware that he was there. Both Ball and Randle looked like they got a kick out of it, especially with the Spectrum SportsNet broadcast showing Randle laughing at the other end of the floor.

This was quite a crazy game, to say the least, but the Lakers managed to cruise in the second half to a 99-86 victory over the Kings at Staples Center for their second straight win.

Randle, who had a double-double on the night, finished with a game-high 22 points and 14 rebounds. Ball, despite having only five points on a frustrating 2-of-10 field goal shooting, had a game-high 11 assists, 11 rebounds, and a whopping five steals.

Up next, the Lakers (13-27) will look to record their first three-game winning streak of the season on Thursday night when they host the San Antonio Spurs (28-14) at Staples Center. The contest, which will tip off shortly after 7:30 p.m. PT, will be broadcast nationally on TNT.
