For the last several months, there has been a growing sense that Indiana Pacers All-Star forward Paul George has a strong desire to join the Los Angeles Lakers.

This has only heightened on Sunday with reports indicating that George told the Pacers that he will play out his contract but not re-sign with the team. In light of that, Ramona Shelburne of ESPN is reporting that the Lakers are not willing to unload any of their young talent to acquire the star forward in a trade.

Although George would constitute a significant acquisition for Los Angeles, the rebuilding Lakers do not currently intend to part with any of their young assets in a trade with the Pacers.

The Lakers' new management headed by Magic Johnson has remained firm on keeping their young core intact over the offseason. It's not much of a surprise given that George has repeatedly indicated he wants to join his hometown team.

However, there could be an increased sense of urgency if the Cleveland Cavaliers do enter the picture for George's services ahead of next season. The Cavaliers are coming off a disappointing loss in the NBA Finals against the Golden State Warriors and there could be a big internal push to get more help especially with LeBron James likely headed to free agency next summer.

There should be plenty more ahead with this developing situation that could see several teams in play for George's services if he's readily available. The only thing for certain is that he looks to be done with his stay in Indiana.
