Stephen A. Smith is no stranger to being part of a lot of headlines for the wrong reasons. Recently, he blasted Phil Jackson live on the show The First Take. However what caught the attention of many was when he made multiple references about Lamar Odom.

The controversial sports analyst repeatedly said the Odom was on crack during his rant. The former Sixth Man of the Year winner did not appreciate his comments and had his lawyer send a letter to ESPN for the poor choice of words their host used to reference to him.

Smith then responded by saying he did not mean to make fun of Odom’s addiction before. He also in his statement, via Timothy Burke of  Deadspin, that he was not the focus of his meltdown, but rather on Jackson, who he was calling out for the decisions that he has made in the past, leading to the unenvious situation of the New York Knicks right now.

“My comments were NOT to put any more focus on Lamar Odom’s much publicized drug use and addiction. He was not the target of my ire.”

“The sole focus of my comments were directed at the unmitigated disaster that Phil Jackson has created since he’s arrived in New York. It my opinion, he simply couldn’t leave soon enough.”

“That’s why it’s worth repeating: Lamar Odom was not the focus of my ire. My comments were entirely, totally, meant for Phil Jackson. Anyone who loves the NY Knicks, who’ve witnessed what has been transpiring over the last three years, know exactly who I was directing my comments to.”

“And Why!”

Odom has yet to respond to the recent comments made by Smith. It does appear that he wants to take legal action for what was said about him, but it’s still worth waiting for him to release another statement to find out if he has accepted Smith’s “apology” or not.
