Things are continuing to look up for Indiana Pacers star Paul George as he heads into this season healthy and ready to go.

Nate Taylor of the Indianapolis Star caught up with team president Larry Bird to talk contract extension time for George.

I know he don’t want to talk about it all year and I don’t either. We want Paul here and we know what it’s going to cost and what it’s going to take. If Paul wants to get a deal done, we will. It’s a max deal. There’s no others, so there’s no use talking about it. If he wants it, he’s got it.

George has the option starting Sunday to sign an extension in Indiana or wait until the 2018 season.

Earlier this summer he stated that he believes the team isn't wasting his time trying to get back to the conference finals with the improvements made this summer, and a max deal is practically his for the taking.

We do whatever he wants to do. He’s proven that he’s a max player. He’s our best player. If he wants a new contract, whenever he wants it, we’ll give it to him

George is the team's franchise player who has battled back into form after suffering a horrific leg injury two years ago.

Not only is he healthy, but confident that his team is ready to take on the best in the league.

In the event that he declines the extension, we can expect other teams to start licking their chops for an opportunity to recruit him.
