In what was an otherwise disappointing season for the Los Angeles Lakers as Kobe Bryant played out his final NBA games, Larry Nance Jr. offered hope for the fan base with his enthusiasm and high-flying play at both ends of the floor.

Whether he's throwing down thunderous dunks or slamming the ball off the backboard with unfathomable blocks, Nance never fails to entertain. He shined during the summer league in Las Vegas, and it appears that he'll have a bigger role on the team come fall.

Given his incredible athleticism, a number of NBA fans have clamored for Nance to participate in the Slam Dunk Contest during All-Star Weekend. Last season, a knee injury just prior to the festivities kept him out of the competition. After recovering, he was asked by Alex Kennedy of Basketball Insiders about the possibility of doing so in 2017.

Assuming their are no hiccups with his health, it appears that Larry is down:

“You know, it’s possible. It’s possible. I took this offseason to really get my knee healthy and I’ve got a pretty nice arsenal of dunks but if I can come up with a couple of things that can wow the crowd, I’ll definitely go with it to defend the family name.”

As Nance alludes to, his father, Larry Nance Sr., won the inaugural Slam Dunk Contest back in 1984. Now we know where he got his springs from.

With plenty of time to prepare, the NBA world will be in for quite the show come February. It will be fun having another contender battle with the overwhelming favorites, Zach LaVine and Aaron Gordon:

“I’ve got some summer, some early preseason to throw some things together and really I’m picking my teammates’ brain on what they think might be pretty cool to see. We’ve got some good ideas, now it’s just to go try them and if I can get them down, I think it’s possible to see another Laker in the dunk contest.”
