It is hard to remember which rookie was this hyped coming out of the NBA Draft, as Lonzo Ball is now. This is mostly due to his outspoken and sometimes controversial father, LaVar Ball. The eldest Ball has a no-holds-barred attitude when it comes to hyping up his son and his abilities.

However, after what Ball showed in his first Summer League game versus the Clippers, it is hard to defend the young guard. Lonzo had a terrible game, going 2-from-15 from the field, 1-of-11 from three, scoring only five points. He added five assists, four rebounds, two steals and one block. Due to the massive expectations of this debut, most non-Lakers fans ripped the young stud on social media after his performance.

However, LaVar Ball decided to, as always, defend his son. LaVar called this game the worst ever for Lonzo. He did, however, add that he still kept his team in the game. The Lakers ultimately lost to the Clippers, 96-93.

There are a lot of expectations for Lonzo in the NBA, and most of them come from his father. LaVar famously stated that, with Lonzo, the Lakers will make the playoffs and, more recently, he stated that Lonzo will win the Rookie of The Year award.

Of course, Lonzo will not be judged on one game, but he needs a good showing in their second game against the Celtics. Otherwise, there will only be more and more criticism coming his way.
