The Los Angeles Lakers have every reason to be optimistic heading into the 2017-2018 NBA season. By adding Brook Lopez and Kentavius Caldwell-Pope in the summer, the Lakers fortified their starting five and should compete on a nightly basis.

Much has been said about Los Angeles' prized rookie point guard Lonzo Ball, but his father LaVar Ball dominated the offseason news cycle. The patriarch of the Ball family has not been shy about expressing his opinion to the media, so it should not come as a surprise as to who he named as his favorite NBA player when asked by Ryan Nagelhout of Uproxx:

Charles Barkley! Light-skinned, strong, can run, fast, cocky. That’s my dude! But now he got over 50 and started talking crazy — it’s OK, I understand that he’s changed.

But until my boys come along, he’s my favorite. He didn’t win nothing. No championships, but the guy was my dude. Strong, just had the wheels. Rebounded the ball. He just played reckless and gave it his all. But he was a bad dude when he played. He was a bad dude.”

Much like LaVar Ball, Charles Barkley has a way of riling up fans and the media with some of his comments, but should feel flattered by the eldest Ball's comments. Barkley was a dominant player in the NBA during his prime and is arguably one of the most underrated players ever given his lack of NBA championships.

While Lonzo Ball should remain a focal point for the national news outlets, his father will surely grab headlines throughout the 2017-2018 NBA season. Given how vocal the two are, fans should expect a media spat between LaVar Ball and Charles Barkley in the near future.
