League of Legends fans are getting quite the treat when Patch 12.2 goes live next week. Not only will the highly mobile AD carry Zeri be released on the second patch for Season 12, but players can also grab a hold of numerous fantastic skins—including one for the new champion. Check out what the upcoming Crystal Rose and Withered Rose skins look like, including the splash art, champion models, recall animations, and special effects.
League of Legends Patch 12.2 Rose-themed Skins
Crystal Rose Akshan
The Crystal Rose skin has Akshan dressed up in a fancy suit, much like a performer wooing the crowd. While the champion model itself is mainly white, it doesn't look plain at all as there's enough purple and bright green highlights that make the abilities stand out—even the passive shield adds specks of colored light to add to the design's appeal. The gradient also runs through Akshan's hook when he activates his E, giving off a dazzling effect like an acrobat swinging through the air. The blend of colors is most stunning during his R, as his weapon glows fiercely and the colors sizzle through the air as bullet after bullet is unleashed.
Another interesting effect in this skin is the animation for when Akshan revives allies. Above the revived teammate, a beautiful rose illustration appears, surrounded by lush-looking leaves on either side. The flowery theme is of course present throughout the rest of the animations, including when recalling, as a shrub-like collection of roses appears beside Akshan followed by a dinner table with a bouquet as the centerpiece. When Akshan enters camouflage (his W), a rose overlay also appears just as he submerges into the shadows.
Crystal Rose Janna
Just like Akshan's outfit, the Crystal Rose Janna skin relies on the blue-indigo highlights to help the skin standout. This also includes the particle-filled shield for her E, especially as the original model already had a white and sky blue color scheme. As an elemental wind spirit, Janna's splash art gives off the vibe that a tornado spiral of petals are swirling around the champion, whose weapon has transformed into one reminiscent of the prickly, thorny stem of a rose. A bird is also hovering right above her shoulder, and that's the same creature that she sends flying at the enemies for her W.
You might think that Janna's recall animation is on the boring side, as it just shows a rose floating beside her and then layers of flowers growing beneath as the champion spins around. To make up for it, the designers added brilliant hues to her whirlwind, making use of the spinning to allow the colors to blend seamlessly, topped up with two roses that grow more distinct as the whirlwind increases in size.
Finally, many will find her ultimate animation a captivating sight to behold, as a rose appears in the middle of the circle, alongside a mosaic-like animation that makes full use of alternating shadows and green and purple colors—it even spins around slowly to further amplify the effects, rather than just radiate outwards.
Withered Rose Elise
If the Crystal Rose skins all had white palettes, the Withered Rose sets have the opposite motif, especially for Elise as a dark and menacing aura surrounds the champion. The splash art blends the night hues with striking blue highlights, showing that the spider-inspired champion has caught her prey. Elise's recall animation carries on with this ominous vibe, featuring a statue—like Medusa turning those who gaze into her eyes into stone—and flowers laid around it as if paying due respects to the dead.
The champion model in-game looks very threatening, indeed. In human form, Elise's dark purple palette combines with the piercing blue of her spider legs, while her spider form can really induce the shivers with a huge rose sprouting on the back part. Her spiderlings, which exude a bright color, also have flowers on their backs. (Don't get me started on the transformation from human to spider, and all those spiderlings appearing at the same time—it's quite unnerving). When they explode, they blend dark hues with some bright green highlights. Elise's cocoon also gets a more forest-y makeover, with vine-like growths plus swirling greens around the stunned enemy.
Withered Rose Zeri
The brand-new champion is arriving with a skin option in addition to the original model. The Withered Rose theme transforms Zeri's motif from the greens and yellows to deep purples—her hair's dyed pink, too—and brilliant blues. Her splash art still stays aligned with the champion concept as a gotta-go-fast type of character, showing Zeri bolting her way through the forest.
Her recall animation has the same fine dining setup as Crystal Rose Akshan, but this time she splatters the table setting with what looks like soot art showing a rose. Much like the other skins in this collection, the blend between dark purple and bright green are what make the effects look appealing, which work very well for Zeri's Q as she fires off the multi-color rounds. They do look quite like Ashe arrows, as the blue-ish tinge gives an icy feel compared to the original yellow.
As for the wall-jumping, players might feel it a bit underwhelming, as not much visual effects are added. The best parts would have to be her W and R. The electric pulse of Ultrashock Laser transforms into a long tether where roses sprout like decors, but in a surprisingly menacing way. Zeri's ultimate, meanwhile, typically discharges a flurry of electricity, but this time, you'll see something between electricity and a burst of “flower power”, if you will—a rose-like silhouette appears beneath the champion, while fragments of petals explode around her like glass shards.
Besides the Rose-themed skins, Patch 12.2 will also be bringing the Porcelain skin collection and the Firecracker skin collection in time for the Lunar New Year.
