Just a few days ago, Riot accidentally published the lore page of a new League of Legends champion in Season 12 called Zeri, the Spark of Zaun, while they were revealing the patch notes for Patch 12.1. Then on Thursday afternoon, a new video leaked, showcasing Zeri's electrifying abilities and a bit more of her story. A few hours later, Riot published the official Champion Trailer to give fans a better glimpse of how the new marksman works in-game plus her spunky Zaunite personality. Here's what we now know about Zeri's abilities and gameplay based on the video.

Zeri: The Spark of Zaun – Champion Trailer Video

Lightning out of the gun

Once she gets her electrical powers to work, Zeri's gets all fired up with little bolts going around her body, as if the electricity is flowing through her. As she aims at the chem-barons in the video, we see the scene transition to Summoner's Rift. Here, Zeri gets to take down enemies with electrical bolts charging right out of her gun.

As a speculative guess, we will probably see this as the ability that players will be maxing. But, at the same time, it could also just represent her auto with a shockingly cool animation. The main attack animation looks a bit like a mix between Jinx's machine gun-firing abilities and Ashe's arrows in her W, but this time, Zeri actually shoots out lightning shocks and not ice.

As expected of any ADC, Zeri's kit will likely involve a lot of kiting, zapping at enemies while dashing away to avoid getting hit in return. The bolts also seem to extend beyond the enemies, so maybe we can expect some splash damage when other champions or neutral monsters are in the fray.

Other abilities: Mobility and AOE damage

While she's fighting Urgot, Zeri also pops a shield right after the dash, but it isn't clear whether that's an add-on effect for the same move, or another one altogether. Or it might even be a passive that perhaps get triggered depending on her mobility.

Another exciting mobility feature involves Zeri jumping over terrain—yes, very similar to Talon. In the video, champion flies over from the bot red side jungle area with the blastcone to the bot lane and ambushes the enemy duo. Finally, the trailer ends with Zeri sending out a huge shockwave, an area of effect move, that wraps her entire body in a bright glow as electrical power courses through her and explodes outward in a dome shape.

We're guessing this is her ultimate, and it looks a very powerful one, although it might require players to go head first into the middle of all the enemies to unleash it to the greatest effect—or find the perfect position where you're still safe but that the attack is in range of the opponents. If that's the case, it will be interesting to see whether players might have to build her with a bit more sustain, use Zhonya's/Stopwatch, just rely on her speed and kiting abilities (and on teammates like tanks and healing supports).

Fans are already highly anticipating the new champion, as it looks like Zeri will be the first champion release for 2022 and the new season. But perhaps it doesn't come as such a surprise that all these details are coming out so suddenly, especially as a strikingly similar Riot-designed character for VALORANT, Neon, just had her agent trailer revealed to the public as well.
