Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James is nearing the twilight stage of his 18-year career in the NBA. When James finally calls it quits on his playing career, he wants to become an NBA owner.

However, LeBron has also had a dream of getting involved on the gridiron, revealing a longtime interest in becoming a high school football coach.

Via Christopher Kamrani and Bill Oram of The Athletic:

“Before I had aspirations of owning an NBA team I always talked about how cool it would be to be a high school football coach,” James said. “Be it a head coach or an offensive coordinator. Some Andy Reid-type shit where I’m making crazy plays. I just love the sport. I watch it all the time. It’s just in me. It’s how I grew up.”

James always had a passion for the game of football, and it still burns to this day. He once suited up as a football player for St. Vincent-St. Mary High School in Northeast Ohio back in the day. Due to his insane physical tools and athleticism, James was easily seen as a cut above the rest of the competition.

Despite the promising potential of being a 6-foot-6 wide receiver on the field, he opted to take a different route and pursued basketball instead. LeBron certainly didn't make the wrong choice given he's one of the best basketball players of all time, but it's always fun to think about him playing in the NFL. The King even considered trying out for the NFL during the NBA lockout after the 2010-11 season, and he's confident he would have made it.

Perhaps one day LeBron James will get to live out his football dreams. While he'll never be an NFL player at this point, maybe he'll get a chance to be a coach at some level.
