The Philadelphia 76ers are coming off a promising campaign that saw them reach the playoffs for the first time in six years behind their two budding stars in Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid.

This forward momentum doesn't stop there as the franchise is looking to be major players in this year's free agency class. According to Zack Rosenblatt of NJ.com, Philadelphia is doing what it can to position itself better financially to sign LeBron James to a max contract.

If he declines, the Sixers and Lakers come to the forefront of all James discussions, and the Sixers are doing everything they can to clear enough cap space to sign him outright to a max contract.

James is expected to hit this year's free agent market where he will attract plenty of attention from across the league. The 76ers are well in the picture as a possible landing spot for the 33-year-old due to their two cornerstone players in place with Simmons and Embiid. There has been no indication that James is heavily considering the franchise, but the team is wasting little time in making themselves look more appealing to the four-time NBA MVP.

Philadelphia will have to shift things around that will start with possibly moving off J.J. Redick, who had inked a one-year, $23 million deal last offseason. His contract off the books opens up a tremendous amount of salary cap space for them to be serious contenders to not only have a promising situation but the money to give him a max contract that he's believed to be looking to land.

All of this first hinges on James declining the final year of his current deal that would put on the open market. If he does make that decision, there will be a few other teams aside from the Cleveland Cavaliers and 76ers such as the Los Angeles Lakers and Houston Rockets that will be in hot pursuit of his services.
