More doubt has been casted over whether or not President Donald Trump had anything to do with helping three UCLA players avoid jail after getting caught shoplifting in China.

LiAngelo Ball recently appeared on a radio show for an interview along with his father, LaVar, and spoke about various topics. One host asked LiAngelo if it hurt having to apologize to Trump.

LiAngelo said UCLA directed him to apologize to the president. Had the school not asked, things may have turned out differently.

“They wanted to hear that,” LiAngelo Ball said. “And he tweeted about it before my speech. So I had to add him in there right before I gave it. … If they didn't tell me to do it, it wouldn't have been in there.”

LiAngelo's response sheds light on the dynamics of that day when he and his other two teammates, Cody Riley and Jalen Hill, apologized to the UCLA and thanked Trump for his help during a press conference arranged by the school.

Their statements of gratitude appeared forced, as if added in their statements recently. LiAngelo's comments line up with that.

Does that mean Trump didn't have anything at all to do with helping the players? Not necessarily.

But it does give a little more credibility to LaVar, who said Trump did not do much at all to help his son or his teammates.
