The Tampa Bay Lightning struck back against the Colorado Avalanche in Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Final, cruising to a 6-2 victory to make it a 2-1 series lead for Colorado. While there wasn't much drama when it came to the final outcome, there were some fireworks late in the game.

Avalanche defenseman Devon Toews delivered a nasty hit to Lightning star Nikita Kucherov by pushing him in the back and into the boards, forcing him out of the game and angering Tampa Bay. Lightning head coach Jon Cooper wasn't happy with the play, and defenseman Victor Hedman called out Toews after the game, per ESPN's Greg Wyshynski:

“It's one of those plays you don't want to see,” said Lightning defenseman Victor Hedman. “It's a dangerous play. You never want to see that. We'll see if anything happens — probably not. But it's a dangerous play.”

There was no update on Kucherov's status after Game 3. Losing him would obviously be a brutal blow for the Lightning against this loaded Avalanche squad, though Tampa Bay showed its championship mettle with the dominant performance on Monday.

Kucherov has seven goals and 26 total points in 20 games this postseason, which is by far the most points on the team. This after he put up 25 goals and 69 points in just 47 regular-season games. The 29-year-old Lightning star had two assists in Game 3.

There should be a fresh update on Kucherov coming out on Tuesday. Tampa Bay is holding its breath and hoping he'll be okay for Game 4, which is on Wednesday. At the very least, hopefully he's not done for the series.
