Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers are ready for a key NFC North matchup with Matthew Stafford and the Detroit Lions on Sunday afternoon. It is a game that both teams need in order to set the tone for the rest of their seasons. Both teams have loads of talent, but they have shown some issues early on this year as well.

In an interview with the Detroit Free Press, Rodgers heaped a lot of praise on Stafford and talked about how he enjoys facing off with the Lions' quarterback.

“I’ve long enjoyed matching up with Matty. He’s a fantastic quarterback and has done it for a long time and I’ve enjoyed competing against him. He’s one of the guys I really respect and enjoy watching whenever we have a common opponent, which we usually do being division foes. Always enjoy watching his film.”

As 247 Sports noted, this matchup will be the 12th time that the two quarterbacks have gone head-to-head. Rodgers has come away victorious in nine of those 11 matchups. Stafford is hoping to get one game closer to him this week.

Green Bay is currently 2-1-1 heading into this week's matchup, while the Lions hold a 1-3 record. Detroit desperately needs this win and they do have home field advantage.

There are quite a few reasons to be excited about this week's game. Over the past few years, there have been some very close finishes, including the infamous “Hail Mary” finish that saw Rodgers throw to Richard Rodgers to defeat the Lions in the closing seconds.

Detroit has been in Rodgers' shadow for years and it's time for Stafford to work his way out from under that. Rodgers obviously respects Stafford and it will be interesting to see if the Lions can get a much-needed win against the best quarterback in the NFL.
