Although Detroit Lions running back Adrian Peterson has not been in town very long, he has wasted no time in making his presence felt.

Running back D'Andre Swift dropped the potential game-winning touchdown pass from quarterback Matthew Stafford to allow the Chicago Bears to secure the fourth-quarter comeback.

Peterson says he took the rookie aside to offer up some advice on how to respond, via the Lions' website:

“I just pulled him to the side and told him, ‘Hey, it’s all about how you respond to this. Don’t let this get you down,'” Peterson said. “I can imagine how he feels in that situation, how he must feel. But at the end of the day, what he showed me today, is that he’s going to be able to help us. He’s going to win games for us going into the season. Just keep your head up, man. We have 15 more, and at the end of the day, do not let this bother you. Do not let this linger.”

Peterson's leadership is indicative of not only the key role he plays on offense, but the Lions' locker room as well. As a veteran that has been through all the ups and downs this league has had to offer, Swift would be wise to heed his advice.

There is no question that this mistake will continue hover on the back of Swift's mind, however, Peterson is doing what he can to make sure that he focuses. His energy on making up for it throughout the rest of the 2020 NFL season.

Peterson was a focal point of the offense with 93 yards on 14 carries. While Swift failed to contribute when it counted, he was still able to score his first career touchdown. It will be interesting to see how the Lions rookie manages to respond.
