There was a company that created a beer trolling the Detroit Lions that used an image of Barry Sanders and the Hall of Fame running back is looking to nix their operations. Sanders and his legal team looked to shut down beer production for illegally using his likeness on the can, per the Detroit Free Press.

A brewery in Detroit created a beer named “Same Old Lager”, which was a subtle shot at the Lions. On the front of the can, Sanders was the player displayed on it, which definitely done to entice fans to buy the beer.

However, Sanders took to Twitter to inform fans that he had nothing to do with the brewery.

Sanders firmly stated that he and his legal team are looking to shut down the production of the cans immediately. Interestingly enough, when you go to the Eastern Market Brewing website — the brewery that created the beer — there are no longer any images of the beers with Sanders on them.

In addition, the company has since removed any mentions of the lager on their Facebook page. Plus, the company has ceased production of the beer due to the legal actions that Sanders threatened to pursue.

For years, the Lions have been a losing franchise that hasn't been able to have consistent success in the NFL. Detroit hasn't won a playoff game since the 1991 season when Sanders was torching defenses on the ground. He would later retire early in 1999, which is still controversial to this day.

In all likelihood, the brewing company that made the new beers was attempting to create harmless humor while trying to get fans to try a new lager. However, Sanders wants no part in being part of the joke with his image being front-and-center of the cans.
