New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick normally hates being asked questions at pressers. Especially when they don't have to do with the topic at hand. He was asked about his former defensive coordinator Matt Patricia. He had been the defensive coordinator from 2012-2017 before being hired away at the Detroit Lions head coach last season.

When asked about Patricia, Belichick had kind words to say about his former staffer, per Ryan Hannable of WEEI.com.

“I am here to talk about the Patriots and the Rams, and that is what our job is this week is to get ready for the Rams. I think Matt is a great coach. I think he does a great job. He did a great job for me. He is very smart. He understands football. He’s an excellent teacher, but really I am here to talk about the Rams.”

The Detriot Lions only went 6-10 last season and struggled to gain footing in the NFC North Divison. Even though Matthew Stafford had another solid season, the team struggled mightily defensively.

Moving forward Patricia only has a few more years before he becomes accountable for his team's play. Just because he comes from a heralded coaching tree doesn't give him a free pass.

The Lions organization trusts that with some personnel changes and some upgrades to the defense that the team will win games moving forward. Even though their division is getting stronger, with another year of the Bears having their core and the Packers with a new offensive coach, the future is bright in the Motor City.
