Back in 2016, superstar wide receiver Calvin Johnson of the Detroit Lions sent shockwaves throughout the NFL. The elite receiver surprised everyone when he decided to call it a career at 30 years old.

Johnson's decision reminded the Lions faithful of Barry Sanders' sudden retirement at 31 while he was still playing at a very high level. Sanders walking away when he did was surprising to say the least and took quite some time for the franchise to recover. Johnson making the same move also set the Lions back as they had one of the best quarterback-receiver duos in the league. TMZ Sports recently caught up with Johnson and asked the future Hall of Famer whether he might make a comeback.

“I don't want to play,” Johnson said.

The injuries were piling up for Johnson during his NFL career and he simply didn't want to deal with them anymore. Johnson showed the state of his fingers and why he doesn't want to catch passes anymore.

“See these fingers, man? I ain't trying to catch no more footballs.”

Johnson was also asked about his former team and whether he thinks they have a good squad heading into the 2018 NFL season in September.

“I don't know, but I wish them the best, man. My boy Matthew [Stafford]. I got a couple guys over there, so I still root for those guys, man. Matthew and Golden [Tate] and guys like that. I wish them the best.”

The Lions play in arguably one of the most competitive divisions in the NFL in the NFC North which only got better over the course of the offseason. The Green Bay Packers and Minnesota Vikings have Super Bowl aspirations while the Chicago Bears are a team on the rise. Stafford and company will try to bounce back after narrowly missing the playoffs last year.
