High-profile players such as Denver's Chris Harris Jr. and Seattle's Russell Wilson have made headlines by demanding new contracts this offseason. According to Detroit Lions general manager Bob Quinn, defensive tackle Damon Harrison will not be the next.

Asked about the status of Harrison, who has been absent from the start of the team's offseason program, Quinn supported his player's decision. According to the GM, the good news is that Harrison isn't avoiding the facility because of issues regarding his current contract.

“No, he’s got other things going on,” Quinn said via the Detroit News. “The offseason program is voluntary. We have different guys, in different stages and different things in their lives, just like we have every year. So, Damon hasn’t been here the last couple of weeks, but we’ve communicated with him, talked to him multiple times and I’m sure we’ll see him here soon.”

Harrison's representation had reached out to the Lions about reworking his contract previously, though. Harrison, who the team acquired in a trade from the Giants last season, has two years remaining on his current deal.

Harrison is entering the fourth year of the five-year contract he signed with the Giants back in 2016. He is set to make $6.75 million this year and $9 million next year and could make an additional $250,000 each offseason if he attends the workout program that he is currently skipping.

His cap hit this year ranks 14th among defensive tackles. Money tends to go toward defenders who impact the passing game more than the running game, though Harrison did record 3.5 sacks in 10 games with the Lions last year.
