The departure of wide receiver Golden Tate last season left a notable void in the receiving corps for quarterback Matthew Stafford. Fortunately, it appears he may have found his replacement in wide receiver Danny Amendola.

According to Terez a. Paylor of Yahoo Sports, Amendola has emerged as a safety net for Stafford:

Stafford seems to genuinely like rookie TE T.J. Hockenson, and Hockenson is in constant communication with Stafford on the sideline to earn his trust. But one player the Lions think could fill Golden Tate’s spot as Stafford’s security blanket in ‘19 is slot WR Danny Amendola.

This is certainly an encouraging sign for Detroit after just one preseason game. There had been plenty of speculation regarding the state of the Lions' offense following a disastrous 2018 campaign. However, it seems roles have already been established.

Amendola spent the bulk of his career with the New England Patriots before signing with the Miami Dolphins last season. It is safe to say that he is hoping to enjoy a potential resurgence as well after a modest year of production in Miami. The veteran provides some much-needed experience to Detroit's otherwise young, unproven receiving corps.

Amendola's arrival could pay huge dividends for Stafford, who is coming off perhaps the worst year of his career from a numbers standpoint. There is no question that the lack of firepower in his arsenal attributed to his struggles. The Lions are hoping that Amendola's presence will bring a sense of stability in the passing game during the 2019 NFL season.
