Detroit Lions standout Darius Slay has made it clear that he wants to be the highest-paid cornerback in the NFL.

Slay replied to a tweet listing the highest-paid corners in the league with the comment “Y'all number to low lol.”

Slay is set to make a base salary of $10 million for the 2020 season, but there is a chance he wouldn't report to camp unless an extension is signed. He didn't report to minicamp or OTA's last season as he looked for a long-term deal.

Miami Dolphins cornerback Xavien Howard contract pays him $15.1 million, and Slay would like to beat that with his deal. Slay doesn't get as much attention as he should because he plays with the Lions, but DeAngelo Hall is someone that has taken notice:

“I love Slay’s game,” NFL Network analyst DeAngelo Hall said via Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press. “I like watching him play because he’s a corner who can do it all. He’s not just a guy who covers guys. He gets the football. He’ll stick his face in there. And just hearing him talk, I like his energy.

“As a corner, you can tell a lot about a guy’s confidence by his energy. I saw him doing an interview (recently and) Steve Smith asked him a question, ‘What makes it hard to cover a receiver?’ And he’s like, ‘Oh, it ain’t hard for me to cover nobody. What makes it hard for other guys to cover X,Y, Z? Maybe this. For me it ain’t hard.’ And I’m thinking, ‘Dog, you better cut it out, cause I seen you, we all get beat from time to time.’ But just love his energy, man. Cause that probably would have been a similar response to me, for sure. So just love everything about his game.”

The Lions have a big decision to make with Slay, and they might be forced to make it sooner rather than later.
