The Detroit Lions aren't in the playoff race in the NFC but their offense will receive a boost this week. According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Detroit has activated Kerryon Johnson from injured reserve and will play versus the Denver Broncos on Sunday.

Johnson only started in the team's first six games of the season. Then, in Week 7 against the Minnesota Vikings, Johnson suffered a devastating knee injury and was placed on injured reserve.

While some believed he would miss the rest of the season, Johnson is determined to finish the season strong. However, it remains to be seen if Johnson receives a heavy workload in his first action since October.

Before sustaining the knee injury, the second-year running back contributed 308 rushing yards and two touchdowns on the ground. As a receiver, he also caught nine passes for 126 yards and another score.

During his eight-game absence, Detroit had the likes of Ty Johnson, Bo Scarbrough, and J.D. McKissic to replace his production. In addition, the Lions went 1-7 while Johnson was sidelined with his knee injury.

Of course, Johnson missed the final six games of his rookie campaign in 2018 after sustaining a knee injury. Therefore, it's fair to assume that Detroit is going to be cautious with him moving forward.

Even though Johnson is returning to the field, the Lions finally placed Matthew Stafford on season-ending injured reserve. The veteran quarterback has been out since Week 9 due to a back injury.

Despite the Lions being 3-10-1, Johnson and the rest of the roster are motivated to end the season on a high note.
