The Connor Cook experiment didn't last long with the Detroit Lions cutting him to sign former San Jose State Spartans quarterback David Fales.

Cook was drafted by the Oakland Raiders after a standout career at Michigan State and there was some expectation that he might replace Derek Carr at some point.

Instead, he continued to fall on the depth chart and only played in two games in three years with the Raiders. In week 17 of his rookie season, completing 14 of 21 passes and there was some hope he would perform decently during the playoffs.

The next week he took on the Houston Texans during Wild Card weekend completing only 18 of the 45 passes and throwing three interceptions.

Cook was cut out of training camp last year by the Raiders and found himself on both the Cincinnati Bengals and Carolina Panthers practice squad at times during the season.

Just a couple of weeks ago Lions coach Matt Patricia said he was impressed with what he was seeing out of Cook.

“(Cook’s) been in a couple of different situations, but has really just come in and tried to work hard every single day,” Patricia said recently via MLive.com “The consistency there is just what we’re looking for from those guys.”

It's unclear if this is the end of the road for Cook or if another team will give him a shot as a camp body.

If this is the end of the road Cook will be more well known for his time with the Spartans than during the NFL.
