The Detroit Lions have added another potentially strong piece to the offensive puzzle for the upcoming 2018 NFL season. Along with Matthew Stafford under center and Golden Tate downfield, Detroit now has three-time Super Bowl champion LeGarrette Blount coming out of the backfield.

Although it'll likely be a running back by committee in Detroit, Blount's presence may be a game changer for the Lions. Running backs coach David Walker talked about the impact Blount will have in his first season in Detroit, via Orion Sang of the Detroit Free Press.

“Hopefully, he’ll give us a little bit more than we had last year,” Walker said. “It’s one thing with 200-pounds of Ameer (Abdullah) or Theo (Riddick) running through the hole that you have to tackle. And it’s a totally different animal trying to tackle a 240-pound LeGarrette Blount. So we understand that hopefully will put a little bit more stress on the defense.”

The running game in Detroit has been sorely lacking over the past couple of years. Stafford has been one of the most prolific passers, but without a consistent threat coming out of the backfield. Blount may help change that as he'll provide a different dynamic while bringing in championship experience to the position.

It'll be interesting to see if Blount's presence can truly change things for the Lions in 2018 as they could be one piece away from being a legitimate threat in the NFC.

Last season with the Philadelphia Eagles, Blount rushed for 766 yards and two touchdowns. He took it to another level during the playoffs with Blount rushing for 130 yards on 29 carries and three touchdowns.
