The Detroit Lions still don't know if Ezekiel Ansah has played his last game in the Motor City.

Whether the team brings him back or not, though, general manager Dan Quinn is proud of how the former first-round pick has dealt with a series of injuries that has sidetracked his career.

“Part of that is the medical,” Quinn said of Ansah's uncertain future with Lions, per Bob Quinn of the Detroit Free Press. “Part of that is the, ‘How long is he going to be out? What do we think when he gets recovered? Is he going to be the same?' So all these things kind of factor in, so I don’t have an answer today. I’ll say this about Ziggy. Ziggy fought through some things this year. Ziggy’s extremely, extremely tough and I’m proud of him being a Detroit Lion because he, like Matthew Stafford, he played through some things that a lot of guys wouldn’t and I appreciate that.”

Ansah played in just seven games last season, the fewest since Detroit took him with the fifth overall pick of the 2013 draft.

The star pass-rusher suffered a right shoulder injury in the Lions' season-opener that caused him to miss the next six games. He never gained a completely clean bill of health, though, and eventually exacerbated the injury on December 9th against the Arizona Cardinals while attempting to make a tackle. He was placed on injured reserve two days later.

The 29-year-old Ansah played last season under the franchise tag.

He has two seasons of double-digit sacks to his name, and was named Second Team All-Pro in 2015.
