The Detroit Lions will be looking to fill the void at offensive coordinator after relieving Jim Bob Cooter of the team's offensive play calling duties. Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator Todd Monken be next in line for a shot with the Lions.

Monken did not find a lot of success with the Buccaneers, but the team as a whole has seen it's fair share of struggles in recent years. Monken was facing an uphill battle this season as the team often switched quarterbacks on a near-weekly basis. The offense struggled to gain any kind of momentum this season due to constant changes and a failure to establish a running game.
The Lions have a lot of potential on offense especially now that they seem to have found their missing piece: a solid running back. Rookie Kerryon Johnson was the first 100-yard rusher the team has had since Reggie Bush was on the team a handful of seasons ago. The wide receiver corps is a very solid unit potentially with Marvin Jones and the emergence of Kenny Golladay. Quarterback Matthew Stafford is also a potentially fantastic player but has struggled in recent years.
Detroit has missed the playoffs the last few seasons after losing to the Seattle Seahawks in the first round back in 2017. Prior to that, the Lions lost a Wild Card game to the Dallas Cowboys back in 2015. There should be brighter days ahead for Detroit, but they have a lot of work to do, and they need to start making the most of their offensive weapons. Monken may be the man to turn things around.
