The Detroit Lions have done business with the New England Patriots earlier this offseason and they've completed another trade. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Lions have traded cornerback Michael Jackson to the Patriots in exchange for an undisclosed draft pick.

Jackson was selected in the fifth round of the 2019 NFL Draft by the Dallas Cowboys. After battling for a spot on Dallas' active roster, Jackson was waived by the Cowboys before last season.

The Cowboys would proceed to place Jackson on their practice squad. However, last October, the Lions signed Jackson to their roster from Dallas' practice squad. Seeing that he's headed to the Patriots, his stay in Detroit didn't last long. He suited up in just one game with the Lions in 2019.

New England surrendered an undisclosed 2022 draft pick to acquire Jackson from Detroit. It's the second trade that the Lions and Patriots have completed throughout the course of the offseason. Near the beginning of free agency, New England elected to trade safety Duron Harmon to Detroit.

Just looking at the Patriots' depth chart at cornerback, Jackson will have a tough time seeing the field. Ahead of Jackson, New England has Stephon Gilmore, Jason McCourty, J.C. Jackson, Jonathan Jones, and Joejuan Williams. The Patriots expect some big things for Williams as he enters his second season with the team.

Also, Justin Bethel resides on New England's roster, giving them a special teams contributor at cornerback. While the Patriots felt comfortable enough trading for Jackson, it remains to be seen what his role with the franchise will be in 2020.
