The Detroit Lions are not having an ideal Thanksgiving Day because if things went according to their will today, they would have won at home against the visiting Chicago Bears. Instead, it’s the Bears who came away with a sweet 23-16 victory. For Lions pass rusher Ezekiel Ansah, though, he will at least remember that loss as the game in which he became the NFL’s all-time Thanksgiving Day sacks leader when he nailed Bears quarterback Chase Daniels to the ground in the third quarter, as noted by the Lions’ official Twitter account.

For the record, Ansah now has 8.5 sacks during Turkey Day, just a shade better than former Dallas Cowboys defensive tackle Randy White, who had 8.0 total sacks on Thanksgiving Day games during his NFL career.

All told, the Lions sacked Daniels four times for a loss of 12 yards.

Ezekiel Ansah was signed by Detroit to an extension in the offseason in hopes of improving their pass rush following the 2017 NFL season in which they finished 20th in the league with 35.0 sacks. Ansah signed a one-year deal worth $17.143 million with the Lions back in April, though, it remains cloudy whether the Lions would like Ansah back for at least another season.

Ansah is third on the team, behind Romeo Okwara and Devon Kennard, with four sacks through the Lions’ first 11 games of the season.
