When Detroit Lions safety Glover Quin was released earlier this month, it wasn’t exactly shocking, but was still a questionable move for the team. Now, it seems as if Quin was really the one behind the move.

Making an appearance on The Pride Podcast, a podcast centered around the Detroit Lions, Quin revealed that he actually tried to get himself out of his contract last season, after the team drafted Tracy Walker last year and reduced Quin’s playing time.

“It was kind of this thing where if I ask them and they tell me no, OK, that’s cool,” Quin said. (via Pro Football Talk). “But what if they would have told me yeah? What if they would have felt the same way? ‘OK, well, yeah, we’re going to go in a different direction. If you don’t want to be a part of it, we’ll give you an opportunity to move on. We’ve got some clauses, we can get out of the contract,’ all that good stuff. What if they would have said that?”

While obviously Quin was unable to get released last year, he was granted that this offseason, and will head into the offseason looking to join a team that is in need of a veteran presence at safety. No teams have been linked to Quin just yet, but he told the podcast that he was in a “good situation” as he waits for any potential opportunities to continue his NFL career.

Despite the dip in play time last year, Quin still managed to start and play in all 16 games for the Lions in 2018. Unfortunately for him and the Lions, Quin was not his usual self, as he was unable to haul in any interceptions, but still recorded 74 tackles and one sack.
